The Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed is a 265 square mile area in central New Jersey that is drained by the Stony Brook and Millstone Rivers and includes parts of five counties and 26 towns. In all activities, The Watershed strives to support its organizational mission by addressing the four core areas: education, advocacy, conservation and science. At almost 60 years old, the organization is one of the original watershed associations in the country.

The Watershed recently completed a master planning process, the outcome of which was a plan for a $7.5 million rehabilitation and expansion of the Buttinger Nature Center with related site improvements on its property outside of Pennington, NJ.

The expanded Buttinger Center provides a new visitor entrance, exhibit spaces, classroom and laboratory spaces and administrative office and conference rooms. The building is certified LEED Platinum.

The completed facility opened in December 2014.
