AMTRAK PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE & ROAD IMPROVEMENTS

30TH STREET STATION | PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA

The National Railroad Passenger Corporation (“Amtrak”) is a private corporation which operates the national passenger rail system. Amtrak owns 30th Street Station, Philadelphia’s grand railroad terminal and the central point in the nation’s second busiest intermodal transportation network. As a direct result of AEGIS PROPERTY GROUP’s Master Planning work Amtrak was able to secure preliminary funding for the development of a Pedestrian Bridge and Arch Street Improvements linking the Station to the “Air Rights Development” projects. Over time, this effort led to the design and approval of a Pedestrian Bridge above Arch Street, connecting the Station to the adjacent office tower and for numerous improvements to Arch Street, including sidewalks, planters, landscaping and traffic control signalization. Construction on these projects began in late 2003 and will be completed by late 2005. These projects are 80% funded by the Federal Highway Administration’s TEA-21 program. The project team includes BPG Properties, Ltd. as the Developer, Urban/STV Joint Venture as the Architect, with Bower Lewis Thrower Architects as key sub-consultant and Shoemaker Construction Company as the Contractor.
