Demo News from The Foundations of the Union League of Philadelphia

July 26, 2010

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Philadelphia, PA – July 26, 2010 - The Foundations of the Union League of Philadelphia issued an e-blast with news on the progress of its current project.

Demolition crews began a five-week project on July 26 to dismantle the League’s former Boker Dining Room and Lounge in order to prepare for the building of The Heritage Center.

Under the watchful eye of the League's Director of Historic Collections, Jim Mundy, crews from Daniel J. Keating Company will begin to remove walls and ceilings this week.  Some of them have not been removed for nearly 100 years.

After demolition, the League will be replacing or repairing pipes and other infrastructure which are hidden behind the walls that service much of the building on the first and second floors.  In addition, significant repair to the foundation of the original building will be needed.  Once this base building work is completed, work will begin on The Heritage Center itself in the fall of 2010.

The Heritage Center is scheduled to open in the spring of 2011.

The Union League of Philadelphia retained Aegis Property Group to provide comprehensive Project Management Services, with full responsibility for team selection, planning, design, construction and occupancy of this complex renovation and construction project. Aegis has been working with The Union League for over 18 years. Tim Calligan is the partner-in-charge on the project, and Steve Nonnemaker is the Development Manager.
