The Stony Brook Millstone Watershed

Central New Jersey

The Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed is a 265 square mile area in central New Jersey that is drained by the Stony Brook and Millstone Rivers and includes parts of five counties and 26 towns. In all activities, The Watershed strives to support its organizational mission by addressing the four core areas: education, advocacy, conservation and science. At almost 60 years old, the organization is one of the original watershed associations in the country.

The Watershed recently completed a master planning process, the outcome of which was a plan for a $9 million rehabilitation and expansion of the Buttinger Nature Center with related site improvements on its property outside of Pennington, NJ.

The expanded Buttinger Center will be built around the existing facility with additional space being added for administrative offices, conference areas and a laboratory.   The project is currently in the pre-construction phase and is being designed with the goal of achieving LEED Platinum certification. Construction could begin in late 2010 or early 2011 pending regulatory approvals and fundraising.
